Illinois Business Developments

Illinois is the most populous marketplace in the Midwest and home to over 2000 corporate headquarters, an active business scene, and more than 1.2 million small businesses, is home to all the resources that global businesses need to be successful in the current business climate. From the world-class infrastructure that connects businesses to suppliers and customers to skilled workers in various fields and a thriving manufacturing base, Illinois has a leading position in many fields such as clean and advanced agriculture, energy, IT life sciences logistics for transportation.

Illinois has seen a huge international investment growth in recent years. Countries like Britain, Japan, Germany and China were among those most invested in Illinois in 2023. By that time, the amount reached over USD $13.2 billion in the agribusiness, manufacturing and manufacturing areas in Illinois all by itself.

Since 2014, more than $1 billion in incentives have been distributed under Illinois' Reimagining Energy and Vehicles program to businesses that offer electric vehicles and green energy production. The program was announced last month. DCEO also granted PsiQuantum Manufacturing with an incentive package totaling over $200 million to build a high-tech manufacturing facility in East Alton.

The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Southern Illinois University is funded partly through a cooperative arrangement between U.S. Small Business Administration, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Southern Illinois University. The center provides local entrepreneurs with assistance for creating or expanding their businesses through services such as free business planning workshops, one-on-one counseling sessions with expert Business Advisors, and access to financing options.
